If the roots are well-mulched, the Hardy Banana plant can survive temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
 

They have very few disease or insects concerns, and will thrive once planted and tended well for the first few months.

Giant Vivax Bamboo

Vivax Bamboo is another unique plant that can do well in the Southeastern United States.
 

Giant Vivax Bamboo, which can grow to heights greater than 30 feet, is especially hardy and grows extremely fast.
 

Giant Vivax can thrive in temperatures of as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
 

The canes are generally 6 inches in width, and can have a rich buff color. It can be a unique addition to any garden, especially for gardeners who like fast-growing plants.

Canna Lilies

Canna lilies have breathtaking colorful leaves in a variety of colors, the perfect summer bloom for gardeners who want lively gardens.
 

They don’t need excessive attention, but they do prefer moist soil and lots of sunlight—but they do grow hardy and efficiently in USDA zones 7-10.
 

A variety of vermin (such as snails and spide mites) and diseases like fungal leaf spot can threaten this species if not cared for.

Yucca Filamentosis (Spoon Leaf Yucca)

This trunkless evergreen shrub has beautiful flower stems that can grow up to 10 feet tall and feature cream-colored flowers.
 

Yucca is hardy in USDA zones 5-9 and can grow well in silt, clay, beach scrub and rocky slopes.
 

These plants are hardy and need very little pampering. They do need to be watered well in their first year to encourage good root establishment.
