3 Upcycling Ideas Just in Time for Holiday Gifts
Now that you’ve purchased your new rural land, money might be a little tighter this Christmas season. That doesn’t mean you can’t put wrapped presents under the tree, though. You can still give your loved ones exactly what they want and need—you just need to have a little creativity and ingenuity. Or you can take some of these genius upcycling ideas and make them your own.
Mason Jar Dispensers
Mason jars are perfect for any number of upcycling projects. We even shared a whole blog about them! This project, however, is easier than most because you probably have everything you need lying around the house. Now, the older that Mason jar is, the cooler this present will be, but new jars still make pretty dispensers.
All you need is a jar with the lid, a drill, and an old pump from another dispenser. The instructions are all right here. When it’s finished, fill with some delicious-smelling lotion or soap and put a bow on it.
Necktie Zip Pouches
If you’re handy with needle and thread—and have a bunch of old men’s neckties lying around—then this is the perfect upcycling craft for you. Even if you don’t have any old ties in the house, you can probably find plenty at a thrift store. Just be sure to pick up two for each pouch. You’ll also need zipper closures from your local craft store.
These are of great quality, especially if you really know your way around a sewing machine. You can enjoy picking out the liner material, mixing and matching different designs, and even adding your own personal touches with embroidery and other personalization. All the information you need, including the instructions, can be found right here.
Vintage Scarf Pillows
Scarves may go in and out of style, but one thing never does: throw pillows. If you have some scarves lying around the house, or have eyed up a stack of them at the thrift store, this upcycling craft is just for you. Of course, you’ll need to know your way around a sewing machine for this one, too.
All the instructions can be found right here, but what you really need to know is that you can use pretty much any scarf, regardless of the material. If it’s not long enough to make the front and back of the pillow, then mix and match for a really fun look. The finished results are gorgeous, but the real beauty is that every pillow will be one-of-a-kind.
Bet you didn’t know how ready for the holidays you were, did you? Clear out that craft room (or get it set up, if you’re in your new home), and start working! You’ve only got a few weeks until the Christmas parties begin.
